Reading time: 3 minutes
It’s that time of year again! Valentine’s Day. I know this day isn’t necessarily everyone’s cup of tea, but the years you do have a date for the occasion, it is nice to dress up and have a fun night out.
This year, as a young professional, you’re likely spending Valentine’s Day at the office between the hours of 9am and 5pm, since it falls on a Thursday.
This means getting ready for your date will have to occur at work.
Here are 6 simple tips to take your office outfit from day to night for your evening with your valentine.
Tip # 1 Wear a Dress
Make it easy on yourself and show up to work that morning in the dress you wanted to wear on your date.
If you find it to be too revealing, use the power of layering to cover anything that shouldn’t be exposed at work.
For instance, be sure to add a blazer if your dress exposes too much of your arms, or slip a dress shirt underneath your dress if it shows too much cleavage.
If your dress is a little bit short, be sure to wear dark, opaque tights and a pair of ballerina flats. You can also wear a dark slip underneath your dress that surpasses its length.
Showing up to the office mostly dressed for the evening will not only save you time, but will also be a lot more practical for getting ready at work.
Not to mention, you won’t need to carry two whole outfits with you that morning.
Tip # 2 Remove the Blazer
When it’s time to get ready for your date, you can simply remove all the layers you had on for the office and leave them in your desk drawer overnight.
There’s most likely no need for a blazer during your date, so don’t be shy to showcase your curves and to embrace your elegant date-night look.
In the case you worry about getting chilly throughout the evening, you can always add a delicate scarf to your outfit, or a faux fur accessory.
A cape may also be an interesting addition to your dress.
Tip # 3 Let Your Hair Down
Although keeping your hair in a sleek ponytail or a low bun during the day is very office appropriate, you want to let it down for the evening.
Take out your ponytail or bun, expose the beautiful waves your hair created from your daytime hairstyle, and mess around with it until you are happy with the result.
If you need a little more help styling it, you could always add a touch of water to restyle a few sections.
You can even go the extra mile and bring a flatiron with you to work.
Simply plug it in in the bathroom and either sleek a few parts of your hair or redefine a few of the curls.
Tip # 4 Change Into a Stiletto Pump
Switch out the shoes you had on for work for a fun pair of stiletto heels.
A dinner-time date cannot go without a high heel pump.
This is great for featuring your legs, complimenting your dress and boosting your confidence.
Not to mention, it shows your date how much you cared enough to dress up for the occasion.
Tip # 5 Switch Your Purse for a Clutch
Before you leave for work the morning of, pack your clutch inside your daytime bag.
When it comes to getting ready for your date, pack your essentials into your clutch and leave your big bag at the office, locked inside one of your desk drawers.
It’ll be much easier to carry a clutch on your date and adds the perfect touch to finish off your evening-time look.
Tip # 6 Smoke Up Your Makeup
For the occasion, you’ll want to darken the eyeshadow in your crease and add a touch of winged eye liner for a more sultry and smokey look.
You can also touch up your mascara and top off the look with a red or neutral lipstick, depending on how bold and festive you’re feeling.
Finish everything off by adding a couple spritz of your favourite perfume.
