13 Sep How to Take Summer Outfits Into Fall
Reading time: 4 minutes
Totally loving your summer wardrobe this season? I get it! Every year we give up our really cute summer clothing for the fall.
I mean, just because the leaves start to change and the air gets cooler doesn’t mean we have to give up all our cute outfits from the summertime.
Keep reading to find out how you, as an elegant young professional, can take your summer outfits into fall.
Wear a long sleeve blouse underneath your sundresses.
Grab a simple t-shirt or a fitted long sleeve blouse in a neutral color and pop it underneath any of your sundresses. Black, white, tan, grey and khaki are neutral colors that would be perfect for a long sleeve blouse.
I personally love wearing a black turtleneck underneath my sundresses because it not only keeps me warm, but it looks really cute too. Additionally, it normally looks as though the dress was sold with the long sleeve blouse to begin with.
What I like the most about a neutral long sleeve shirt is the fact that it’s versatile. I can pop it underneath most of my patterned dresses without worrying that it won’t match the look properly.
Trust me, that fitted long sleeve blouse will be key when transitioning your summer outfits into fall.
Add a pair of tights and boots under your skirts.
Throw on a pair of tights underneath any summertime skirt or dress and you’ll be good to go. You don’t necessarily have to wear a pair of dark colored tights.
You can easily opt for a nude colored pair if you’re just looking for a little more warmth.
Replacing your sandals with cute boots is another way of transitioning your summer outfits into fall.
A great way of doing this is by wearing a pair of heeled ankle boots with a mid-length skirt specifically to transition my outfits into fall. It looks elegant and saves me money on my fall wardrobe as I don’t need to purchase any more skirts for fall.
Add a cardigan over your t-shirts.
The fall season means the cooler months are upon us. The number one fashion rule during the colder months: LAYERING.
Layering is probably the best way to take your summer outfits into fall. A great way to layer is to wear a t-shirt underneath a sweater.
If you’re concerned about your t-shirt not being the focal point of your outfit, then pair it with a cardigan instead of a big chunky sweater.
It’ll keep you just as warm, but will at least showcase the summertime t-shirt you love so much.
Layer with your crop tops.
As mentioned above, layering is the key to fall and winter dressing. Often, I like to wear my crop tops underneath a low cut sweater or blazer.
They are super cute when they peak out of a sweater and add more warmth to your outfit for the day. Another way to wear your crop tops is with a pair of high waisted jeans and a long cardigan.
This look protects your skin from the cold, while allowing you to wear your summertime crop top.
Crop top layering is especially great if you want to go clubbing in the fall. You can wear a lace crop top with a pair of black high waisted leather trousers and a cardigan, which can be removed when you arrive at the club.
That way, you won’t have to worry about being cold on your way there, but you’ll still be appropriately dressed.
Wear a long fall coat over your summer outfits.
Aside from a pair of shorts and sandals, you can get away with wearing most of your summer wardrobe in the fall. The important thing is that you’re warm.
Not to mention that a beautiful long coat for fall is an absolute timeless staple that’ll last you many years, especially if you truly invest in a quality coat.
Long coats like these are extremely elegant, which means they’ll suit all of your fall outfits. A coat will also layer nicely over top any summertime blouse, dress or skirt you choose to wear for the day.
Wearing a long coat is really an easy way to transition your summer outfits into fall.
Mixing summer colors with fall colors
Naturally, in the summertime, the colors are a lot more vibrant and neon. A good way to wear your summer clothing is to choose pieces that are neutral (white, tan, black, grey, khaki).
If you want to wear more pastel colors, be sure to pair them with dark blues and reds, as those fall time colors compliment pastels best.
For instance, a red coat would look beautiful over top a pastel pink or electric blue top and a pair of blue jeans.
As for neon, you can wear bright colors such as red and yellow if the rest of your outfit is completely neutral.
As much as fashion has rules, should have fun with what you wear too!
You really shouldn’t have to give up your cute summer outfits just because fall rolled around! The key to implementing your summer wardrobe pieces into your fall looks is to layer and to mix and match.
Just pay attention to the colors you put together and you call pull off the transition seamlessly.
