Reading time: 4 minutes

“4:23 am. I start my mornings early” – Ryan Serhant
“4:42 in the morning. This is usually when my day begins” –Casey Neistat
For some of us, the morning is the best part of the day. For others, it may be the worst.
All successful professionals however, know the importance of a productive morning routine.
When you wake up before the rest of the world does or before the sun comes up, it sets the tone for the rest of the day.
Based on the morning routines of successful individuals like Garyvee and Kevin O’Leary, this is what I’ve gathered young professionals should follow for a great career and successful morning routine.
A Winning Morning Routine

6 pm the night before: Plan out the next day
Barbara Corcoran and Ryan Serhant both do this. They dump everything that’s in their head onto paper the night before, and plan out their schedule for the next day.
The point of doing this is to avoid wasting time during the day and to be productive as soon as you get into the office.
It’s also great for giving yourself peace of mind about all projects you want to work on or all the tasks you need to complete.
It truly allows you to prioritize a spot within your day (or your week) to get everything done.
If you’re the type of person to plan your full week on Sunday night, then I suggest you use this time to prepare yourself mentally for what you’re going to tackle the following day.
I personally do this every night and it really creates a focus on the tasks I want to get done when I wake up the next morning.
5 am: Wake up
Why wake up so early?
There’s something that happens when you wake up at the crack of dawn that is like none other.
You automatically win the first battle of the day, which makes you feel amazing.
You also practice discipline first thing in the morning.
It truly sets the tone for the rest of the day and encourages you to continue implementing discipline consistently.
All of a sudden, your tasks for the rest of the day will seem a lot easier to fulfill.
As a result of your discipline, your productivity will skyrocket and you will deliver better work at a faster pace.
This allows you to distinguish yourself from your colleagues at the office in the long term.

5:30 am: Workout
You know what all these successful individuals do when they wake up? They workout. Every morning.
It helps them establish a mind-body connection, it gives them energy for the day, it helps them wake up and it makes them tackle the hardest task of the day first.
We all know there are benefits to fitness. Getting it in first thing in the morning will set your mood, attitude and mindset for an awesome day.
6:30 am: Shower
It’s important to always look clean and to smell nice too! Grooming is a crucial part of getting ready and can actually make or break your appearance.
You want your hair to be well styled and your face to appear refreshed.
Don’t forget to add deodorant, to comb your hair and to spray a little cologne as well for a really clean, overall look.
6:45 am: Get dressed

Just like Grant Cardone says, you want to dress for success.
What should you wear exactly?
You want to wear an elegant suit, a nice dress shirt and complimentary suit accessories like a tie clip, or a modern watch.
Lastly, finish off your look with a polished pair of dress shoes, a wool coat, a cashmere scarf and leather gloves if it’s cold outside.
You can even top it all off with a really nice pair of sunglasses.
When you’re well dressed, people take you as a serious professional and will be more likely to want to work with you as well.

7:00 am: Breakfast
Most successful businessmen and businesswomen actually attribute some of their success to their healthy diet and lifestyle.
Tony Robbins talks about “The Sustainable Health Diet”, Josh Flagg talks about a low carb diet, while others follow a vegan diet.
Whatever your diet may be, starting your day with a healthy breakfast will help you feel good and will fuel you for the rest of the morning.
I would substitute sugary foods like cakes and cereals for protein, fruit and vegetables instead.
A few breakfast options you might enjoy are oatmeal, a protein smoothy or a couple of poached eggs.
7:30 am: Go to work

There you have it! You’ve made it through the morning and you are all set for a great day at the office.
Bonus!
There are also multiple interesting things that came up while researching the morning routines of the most successful individuals in the world.
Some of them watch the news while working out, others find 15 minutes to answer emails or meditate in the morning, and some like to do a brain dump as soon as they wake up.
Whatever you enjoy doing for yourself, add it to your morning routine.
You’ll not only feel like you’ve already accomplished so much in the day, but also like you’ve taken time for yourself.
How to Implement this Realistically?

Personally, I struggled with doing this daily. However, after a few weeks of practice, it became much easier.
The longterm goal is to have this routine become second nature.
The best way to start is by implementing aspects of this winning routine gradually.
Start by waking up earlier. A week later, integrate a workout.
Simply keep building up your morning routine until you feel you’ve created the best one for yourself.
