18 Aug How To Never Regret A Purchase Again
Reading time: 5 minutes
My friend Isabelle and I were talking about tips we use to avoid regretting a purchase. There many things I regret buying from impulse spending.
Seriously, both of us have had our fair share of regrettable purchases, and there is really nothing worse than buying something, trying it on again at home, and hating it.
Keep reading to find out how never to regret a purchase again as an elegant young professional.
After you buy something you weren’t convinced about, you’re thinking to yourself: “Well, what do I do with it…?”
Lets be honest here, you don’t go back to the store to return it. You either end up forgetting you bought it or you simply get too lazy to take it back.
At this point, you’re out “x” amount of money and your closet is just that much cluttered…
Sounds familiar? This used to happen to both Iza and I, until we found tools to help us out! Here are all the tips we implement when we shop so we don’t regret a purchase again. Are you ready to find out what not to do?
Tip # 1: imagine yourself wearing the piece on a day to day.
Of course you can’t wear this piece every day, but does it fit your style? and would it match a lot of the pieces you already have in your wardrobe?
These are insightful questions that really make you think whether or not you need a certain item.
Tip #2: Do you truly have an occasion to wear it?
I think every girl has been there. You’re out and about, shopping like it’s nobody’s business, and all of sudden you see your dream dress, just hanging there on rack.
So you pick it up, you try it on, and guess what?? it even fits like glove! But then BAM, reality hits and you realize you don’t have a wedding to go to anytime soon, the prom was last year and no boy is taking you out on a fancy date.
Moral of the story: just put it back, there will be a million more dream dresses in the future.
Tip #3: If you hesitate, always put it back.
I mean, worst case, you come back and pick it up later. You can even put it aside for 24 hours and come back the next day after you’ve slept on it.
Most stores will hold items for you overnight.
Tip #4: Read the label.
If you’re not one to want to hand wash, dry clean, or iron your clothing, then make sure the item is low maintenance, and machine washable (and even wrinkle free).
Tip # 5: Make sure you’re aware of the return policy
You know, in case you really are one of those people that returns items. I know it annoys me personally when stores don’t allow me to return.
It definitely makes me think twice about buying an item. I only get it if I absolutely love it.
Tip # 6: It’s worth trying things on at the store.
There is nothing worse than getting the wrong size or buying something that just doesn’t look quite right on your body.
Tip # 7: Don’t kid yourself and get a size too small for that “10 pounds you’re about to lose”.
I know I know, I’ve been there! This is probably one of the biggest lies women tell themselves.
Trust me, you’ll feel much better buying a pair that does fit and then buying a new pair when you actually lose that 10 pounds.
Tip # 8: It’s ok to spend more money on pieces you know you’ll get good wear out of.
Basics are a great example of this. The clothing will last longer and you’ll get more value for money.
Tip # 9: Allocate a budget for your shopping so you don’t get out of control.
Budgeting is not only good for shopping, but its a great habit to have for the long run.
Budgets allow you to make sure you spend within your means and allow you to save that big cash for a huge purchase you’ll want to do one day (like a house, a car, a trip to the Bahamas? Anything you really want or need)!
Avoid the things I regret buying and never regret a purchase again! The worst thing ever is buying something you end up never wearing.
Learn to recognize the signs that warn you about not buying a piece of clothing and you’ll never regret a purchase again.
