Never want to feel like you look terrible in an outfit again?! I hear ya! We are all gorgeous women with a beautiful body type.

Sometimes, it’s hard to find clothing that flatters us the best. However, we should be celebrating the parts of our bodies that make us unique. Don’t you think?

I want to help everyone feel amazing in the clothes they wear, so here’s a guide to help you find the best clothing for your body type as an elegant young professional.

Step number one: define your shape.

Pear, apple, athletic, hourglass, slender? The possibilities for your body type are endless and it’s hard to define which shape we really are.

Sometimes, shapes change throughout a lifetime too, so it’s important to re-evaluate your shape every once in a while. Here are the different body types:

Slender: This is someone that is thin along the entirety of their body.

Athletic: This is someone with muscle, broader shoulders and a straight figure.

Hourglass: This person has curves. This is someone with a larger chest and a curvy bottom that tends to gain weight in their breasts and butt.

Pear: This is someone with a smaller chest and a curvy bottom. They tend to gain weight in their butt and thighs.

Apple: This is someone with thin legs that normally gains weight in their stomach area.

(Did you find the one that matches you? Personally, I’m a pear!)

Step number two: find the stores that make clothes for your shape.

Find out which women in your life have a similar body shape to yours and ask them where they go shopping.

Sometimes, certain stores cater to specific body types. It might help you to find THE store that can cater to yours. Here are a few stores and brands in Montreal that fit certain body types:

Slender: Aritzia If you’re quite slim, this store is made for you! Forever 21 as well has smaller sizes.

Pear: Kate Spade. Small bust, larger bottom? Kate Spade is your new go-to. H&M is awesome too.

Hourglass: H&M. They have clothing that fit your chest and your bottom.

Athletic: Dynamite. This store is great for athletic bodies and tall women.

Step number three: A few clothing items you’ll look amazing in based on your body type.

Slender/Athletic: t-shirt or boxy dresses, low cut blouses and booty shorts.

Hourglass: Peplum tops, wide leg pants, bodycon dresses and a-line dresses.

Pear: Low cut tops, wide leg pants, peplum tops, pencil skirts and fit & flare dresses.

Apple: Skinny jeans, boxy blouses, boxy dresses and high waisted pants.

Step number four: A few clothing items and patterns to avoid.

Slender/Athletic: To be honest, you guys can pull off most of the clothing out there.

Hourglass: Horizontal stripes, low cut tops and boxy dresses.

Pear: Boxy shirts and tight skinny jeans.

Apple: Fitted blouses (unless there’s rushing around the stomach) and fit & flare dresses.

Step number five: it’s okay to wear what you want too.

Although certain items may not be predicted to fit your shape, sometimes, you can still find pieces that work and that make you look amazing.

The key is to try the clothing on first and then to really judge the fit.
